It's an annual ritual of spring. We set our clocks and watches ahead one hour for Daylight Savings Time.
It's no big deal when you have only a few timepieces. But, it is a lot of work at the Dakota Watch Company at the Millcreek Mall. They have hundreds of watches.
"I think, right now, it's around 650 or so," says Nate Runninger, Store Manager.
Big watches, little watches, digital watches. Gold watches. Yellow, orange and pink watches. All need to be reset. It's company policy.
"Unless the stem's already pulled when we get it, we're supposed to have them all set to the correct time. That way, if a watch isn't set to the correct time, it looks like a broken watch," says Runninger.
The Dakota Watch Company employs only four people. No one really enjoys the task of resetting the watches. But, it's a job that must be done.
"We joke around. There are times here when we haze the new employees with it. Normally, it's just whoever's there. You just get it done," says Runninger.
It's a busy Saturday at the kiosk. Daylight Savings Time starts at 2am. The clock is ticking away. Will all the watches be reset on time?
Honestly, I haven't even started yet," said Runninger. "Normally, you would try to get them set as soon as we can. You don't want them set to the wrong time before we need to. So, we try to get them done as fast as possible this Saturday and even tomorrow"
It looks like the staff at the Dakota Watch Company will be busy, even into tomorrow, setting the correct time on all these watches. Then they can relax until they have to go through the entire process again in the Fall.
