Bowsher High School Senior Maya Wymer won this year's Congressional Art Exhibition competition for the 9th District.
Her work will be displayed in the U.S. Capitol building for a year.
She was honored Sunday by the Arts Commission and Congresswoman Marcy Kaptur. Kaptur says it's important that students consider careers in the arts.
"We are trying very much to uplift the arts as an important part of who we are and marketing ourselves for the arts. We are showing here the visual arts and we are trying to help the students to figure out ways in which they can use their talents in the future."
Maya will get a free ticket to Washington D.C. to represent our area at the Capitol.
Libbey Glass will also choose a young artist's work to feature on a set of glassware.
