BIRMINGHAM – Sophomore Eric Schmidt suffered his first collegiate loss a few days ago but put that outing behind him and threw a gem in a 5-2 win over No. 10 Birmingham-Southern (11-5) on Sunday. Schmidt improved his record to 1-1 this season by going eight innings and striking out six Panthers. Schmidt tossed 120 pitches on the day with 82 of those for strikes. Lucas Willitzer finished off BSC in the ninth for his first save this season. He walked one and fanned two facing four batters.
Jamey Sackett batted 3-for-5 with a run scored for the contest. Sam Fischer collected his second double of the season with two walks and scored a run. Garrett Green drove in two runs in five at-bats with a single scoring two in the third inning. Dan Heatherly also had a RBI single in the three-run third.
Adrian scored two runs in the sixth inning off of an unearned run and a RBI single by sophomore Ben Yax. Anthony Sergi also had a pair of hits in four at-bats with a run scored. Adrian concludes its spring trip at 2-4 overall. They are back in action on Mar. 16 on a neutral field at Franklin College against Thomas More beginning at 3 p.m. The Bulldogs will then face Franklin on Mar. 17 at noon.
