A local program to fight childhod hunger received a big boost today. The Walmart Foundation made a $75,000 donation to the Second Harvest Food Bank.
The money will be used to continue a backpack program that provides healthy meals to needy children at elementary schools in the Erie School District.
Karen Seggi of the Second Harvest Food Bank said, "This is huge. We started a partnership with Walmart quite a few years ago and they jumped in full foce. They have a serious commitment to help to alleviate hunger in our area. And specifically today, childhood hunger."
Jason Klipa of Walmart said, "As a large grocer we need to use our size and scale to fight this issue."
The program provides food to help more than 1,000 kids every week.
