Fruit farmers in North East say they are happy not to see a repeat of the big warm up last March. Many farmers had big losses after the fruit blossoms opened early, then died in frosts.
But this winter has been normal, with cold and snow continuing, making the chance of crop losses much less likely.
Farmers are busy trimming trees and doing their normal early spring chores, feeling much more optimistic than at this time last year.
Fruit farmer Tim Burch said, "The plants, grapevines, apple trees, peach trees, cherries, everything right now looks very healthy. we farmers are very optimistic at this point in time."
Fruit Farmer Dave Wagner said, "I love the cold weather. It keeps the buds tight."
