Erie Police/Fire Gearing Up For St. Patrick's Day Celebrations

Posted: Updated:

St. Patrick's day celebrations are just days away.
And with huge crowds expected all this weekend, area police and fire will be looking out for your safety.

With St. Patrick's day on a weekend, the crowds are expected to be big.
St. Patrick's day revelers will pack area bars and restaurants to celebrate everything Irish.
And, it's no secret that many people tend to over indulge this holiday.
With two days of celebrations, area police are fire say they're prepared to keep everybody safe.

Law enforcement will have beefed up DUI patrols this year.
Erie police are dedicating extra patrols to DUI enforcement, and Erie county detectives will be out in full force with roving DUI patrols.

Also, fire inspectors will be visiting several establishments in and around downtown Erie.
They'll be making sure there's no overcrowding, in case there was an emergency, like a fire.
"When you got too many people in there, everybody tries to get out at tome time, people start getting knocked over, the doors get blocked and people get trampled." Said Erie Fire Inspector, John Widomski.
"Find a designated driver before you go out to drink because once they start drinking that's when people tend to forget those kinds of promises that they made." Said Chief Erie County Detective, Larry Dombrowski.

Dombrowski is reminding folks that DUIi's anymore on not cheap.
Between lawyers fees, fines, court costs, your car insurance going up, it's a crime that'll cost you thousands of dollars.
