The Barber National Institute today giving a big welcome to a key state official.
Staff, students, and adults filled the lobby today to greet Fred Lokuta. He's a new top official of the Department of Public Welfare, overseeing many programs and services provided by the center.
He has spent 28 years working in the field so he is well versed in programs for kids and adults with developmental disabilities. But today he got to see first hand the work being done in Erie.
Lokuta said, "It always keeps my mind focused on the direction we need to take and how we align our services to meet the needs of people. So seeing it first hand is always a good way to maintain a grounded approach to services."
This was Lokuta's first visit to the Barber National Institute.
