Parishioners and community leaders gathered in Erie on St. Patrick's Day to remember the late Pastor Reverend Herlies Murphy. He served the Community Missionary Baptist Church at East 10th and German Street for 35-years.
Associate Pastor Dr. Gary L. Brown told those gathered that it's important to remember the late pastor's life and work. Parishioners say Rev. Murphy was a fighter for the faith and for young people. He was known for partnering with other community leaders for programs like Walking in Black History.
On Sunday they renamed a portion of German Street for Murphy and remembered his legacy. The day of the observance would have been his 80th birthday.
