ERIE, Pa. — Kevin Hogan, a fifth grade student at Erie's JoAnna Connell School, has been named a Pennsylvania National Geographic Bee semifinalist by the National Geographic Society according to a news release from the Erie Schools.
Hogan, the son of Laurie Hogan and Denise Quadri, will compete in the 2013 Pennsylvania National Geographic Bee, sponsored by Google and Plum Creek. The Bee will be held at the Eisenhower Hotel and Conference Center in Gettysburg on April 5.
Bees were held in schools with fourth through eighth grade students throughout the Commonwealth to determine each school's winner. School-level winners then took a qualifying test, which they submitted to the National Geographic Society. Only 100 students across Pennsylvania were invited to compete at the state level.
The state winner will earn a trip to Washington, D.C., where he/she will represent Pennsylvania in the national finals held in May at the National Geographic Society headquarters. The finals will be moderated by Alex Trebek and air on the National Geographic Channel and Nat Geo Wild.
