EARLIER STORY:
The Ottawa County Sheriff's Office is working to get the bottom of a Monday morning death. Norfolk-Southern crews called the department a little after 11 A.M. to report a body along the train tracks of Salem Township.
"This does not appear to be anyone that's dumped a body," says Ottawa County Sheriff Stephen Levorchick. "This appears to be an accident that has happened."
The man is described as a Hispanic male, between 40 and 50 years old. He was wearing brown pants, a blue shirt and coat, and black tennis shoes. Injuries show a train did hit the man, but authorities won't know the exact cause of death until after the autopsy.
Sheriff Levorchick says this set of tracks gets a lot of traffic. He doesn't believe the body could have been there long.
"The investigation is ongoing at this time to ensure it was accidental and to positively identify the body," says Levorchick.
The Lucas Co. Coroner's Department will conduct the autopsy, but it's unknown when that will take place.
