The Presque Isle Bay Advisory Committee will continue it's work, even though the federal government last month took the bay off a list of Great Lakes environmental trouble spots.
The committee today reached a consensus to expand it's work to include tributary streams and possibly nearby Lake Erie waters. A formal vote is expected at the next meeting.
Meantime, the group learned that the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection is ready to launch a $250,000 study of bay fish, water, and sediment. But the EPA grant is being held up by the federal government sequester.
Lori Boughton of the DEP Office of the Great Lakes said, "So my request is sitting, waiting to see what happens with the continuing resolution at the end of this month and whatever sort of readjustments they need to make to their budget due to the sequester."
The advisory group has been monitoring the health of the bay for more than 20 years.
