Citizen's Meeting Gets Heated in Albion

Posted: Updated:
What was intended as a meeting to address concerns citizens of Albion had over an alleged police chase in November quickly became heated Monday night, after rumors surfaced the borough may eliminate their police force.

Over 50 members of the community packed the Albion Borough Hall for the meeting. Mayor Jeanne Bright said people have been hearing what she calls "rumors" regarding the elimination of the police force.

Both she and council members there said that just isn't true, but that didn't stop people there from standing up and giving their reasons why police are needed in Albion.

"We need them," said Carrie Langdon of Albion. "Things aren't as bad as what it used to be, and it's because of them. I commend Chief of Police Dan Ries. He's the best we've had I believe."

Also a concern tonight was the amount of tickets people say are given out for speeding and DUI. Mayor Bright said it's just the law, and that they cannot have people drinking and driving in Albion. Citizen there agreed.

"When you see the red lights, the blue lights, they're telling you to pull over," said Samuel Steff of Albion. "If you decide to run, whatever happens to you, its your consequence."

Mayor Bright, other officials like Fire Chief Scott Hyde and people there said this meeting productive, and helped people see what Albion Police do.
