Deer bolts from car trunk past stunned officer

Posted: Updated:

KALAMAZOO, Mich. (AP) - Talk about junk in the trunk.

A Kalamazoo public safety officer checking a suspicious car parked behind a motel early Tuesday morning appeared more than a little surprised when a deer climbed from the trunk, stumbled on the pavement and then bolted into nearby woods.

WZZM-TV says the car's driver told officer David Miller he had killed the deer after colliding with the animal on the road. The driver also said he was taking it home to feed meat from the carcass to his family.

Miller began to open the trunk after the driver unlocked it with a release button. A camera mounted in a Kalamazoo squad car shows Miller starting to close the trunk and then the deer climbing out rear-first.
