Weather impacts Gatekeeper construction at CP

Posted: Updated:
Cedar Point, OH -

Cedar Point will open up its doors this season on May 11th, but cold and windy weather is slowing down construction on America's newest cutting edge roller coaster, the Gatekeeper. The biggest slowdown occurred right after construction started during Super Storm Sandy, when gusts between 70 and 80 mph hit the park.

Winds of 25 mph or stronger means the construction crew can't set steel and that happened 48 days this past winter season.

Despite the tough winter conditions in recent weeks, mild and calm weather last November and December gave construction crews the boost they needed to stay on pace. The coaster is expected to open up on time for the May 11th opening day. Each seat will be thoroughly tested before the ride is opened to the public.
