Rock and rollers are hiding out in corporate America and Fortune 500 Magazine has found some of them right here in Erie. Five members of a classic rock band called "Cover Story" all work together at Erie Insurance. They got together to play for a one time benefit eight years ago, and liked playing so much they just kept going.
After sending in an audition video, the band with members ranging in age from 50 - 60 years old, have earned a spot in the regional finals of the "Fortune Battle of the Corporate Bands." They'll face their round of regional competition this July in Nashville. They're vying for one of eight spots at the finals at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland on September 28.
"We have twenty minutes to perform, five minutes to get up and down from the stage," said lead vocalist Sonia Esfahbodirad. Sonia a project managers in the claims department says the group does covers as their name suggests, songs from Melissa Etheridge, Led Zeppelin and Creedence Clearwater Revival. "We've been talking about five to six songs, we want to be memorable so keep your fingers crossed for us."
Paul Borden, an organizational effectiveness consultant at the insurance giant plays rhythm guitar and keyboards for the band. "We're beyond our wildest dreams," said Bordon, "if we played the Rock 'n Roll Hall of Fame, you can't beat that."
The group has played local benefits, wineries, even roar on the shore. All but one work in the claims department in fact lead guitar Matt Myers is Sr. Vice President of claims. Band members say even if they make it to the finals, they don't expect to quit their day jobs, but who knows...there could be a talent scout watching in Nashville.
