Managers at Presque Isle today told members of the Presque Isle State Park Advisory Committee they are preparing plans to cope with lower lake levels. Right now there is no major concern, but the park wants to be ready.
Lake Superior and Lake Huron are already at all time low levels. Lake Michigan is nearing a record low. And those lakes feed into Lake Erie. Right now Lake Erie is about a foot lower than normal.
Last fall. some sailboats were hitting sandbars and scraping bottom in the Presque Isle Marina.
So the park is looking at more monitoring this year, possibly dredging, making changes at boat ramps and the marina, and taking other steps if the level of Lake Erie keeps dropping.
