The next step in Pennsylvania's debate over privatizing wine and liquor sales is the state senate. But it is not clear yet when that debate will begin.
The senate gets the bill after the house last night voted 105-90 in favor of the measure, a major victory for Governor Tom Corbett. Both supporters and opponents think a vote in the senate will be very close, with predictions of the outcome split along party lines.
Republican Representative Greg Lucas of Edinboro said, "I can't say what the senate is going to do. It is going to be a tight vote if it does go up for a vote."
Democratic Representative Pat Harkins of Erie said, "I hope the senate has more sense and I think they will have public hearings to bet it out. I don't think it will go further."
