Erie Police arrived to an alleyway off of West 5th and Cherry Street around 3:30 p.m. Friday, after a neighbor made the grim discovery.
"We got a call from a person who lives in the area saying that they saw a suspicious vehicle behind their house," said Erie Police Sgt. Mike Brady. "They went up to investigate, and at that time, they saw that there was a male in that vehicle."
That man--described as a white male in his 30's to 40's--was dead in the back seat.
Officers spent several hours on scene, looking for clues that could determine what led to this outcome. Investigators are treating the man's death as suspicious.
"In this area, there's a lot of activity here," said Sgt. Brady. "But for this person to be in the vehicle where it's at...it's suspicious."
Neighbors near the crime scene, describe the situation as disturbing.
"It's terrifying for me," said Elias Shea. "It happened more or less in my backyard."
Shea has lived in the area for six months. Shea says the fact that this happened so close to home, is unsettling.
"Hopefully it wasn't murder or anything," said Shea. "Hopefully, it was natural causes, but who knows with what's going on these days."
As of right now, there's no word on the cause of death. The coroner's office is scheduled to do an autopsy on the body Saturday morning.
