Extended Ski Season

Posted: Updated:

Easter may be less than a week away, but winter is holding on in our area. And that is welcome news at Peek'n Peak in Chautauqua County.

The ski season ended on March 17 last year. This year it is still going strong, and is scheduled to continue until April 7. That means more skiers and a lot more business this winter at the resort.

About 185 inches of natural snow has fallen this winter at the resort, compared to just  57 inches last winter. And the base is 2-4 feet deep.

And with more snow this winter in nearby cities like Erie, Jamestown, Cleveland, Pittsburgh and Buffalo, people are more in the mood to ski. The result is a more profitable, extended season.

Paul Pisano of Scott Enterprises said, "Business is way up. Needless to say we ended our season last year on the 17th. As a matter of fact, we played 200 rounds of golf by this time last year."

Skier Raymond Sonnenberg said, "I think this winter is 100% better. We have had great snow, great conditions."
