Gaming Money to Help Fund Perry 200 Fireworks

Posted: Updated:

Gaming money will help fund a lot of local events this year, including the Perry 200 celebration.

The Erie County Gaming Revenue Authority today announced grants to 28 different community organizations. The grants total more than $154,000.

The biggest check will go to help put on 4 big fireworks shows on July 4. The shows are slated for Liberty Park in Erie, plus North East, Girard and Waterford. The idea is to stage the biggest local Independence Day celebration ever.

Perry 200 Chairman Dr. William Garvey said, " Without the $50,000 we could not possibly reach the whole county, and bring them into the celebration."

ECGRA Executive Director Perry Wood said, "We are really excited about Perry 200. So we are happy to be able to come to the table and financially support them."

The other checks distributed today will be used for a wide variety of events including fairs, performances, parades and festivals.
