History to Consolidate at Watson-Curtze

Posted: Updated:

The Erie County Historical Society has announced that its Erie operations will soon be consolidating at the Watson-Curtze mansion on West Sixth Street in Erie.

The $1.2 million dollar plan will renovate the upper floors of the mansion for additional gallery space and also build a new archive building behind the current Planetarium building on the grounds.

"It's one stop for exhibits, historical research, we'll have our archives based here as well as the Erie Planetarium." Executive Director Caleb Pifer told us.

Society board members began researching options two years ago when the Erie Art Museum asked about buying the current archive building at 4th and State Streets.

The Society will continue to operate the Battles Museum property in Girard. The consolidation should be completed by March of 2015.
