Andre Horton Running for County Council

Posted: Updated:

Incumbent democratic county councilman Joe Giles has some challengers this primary season, and one of them is former local NAACP President, Andre Horton.  Horton held a fund raiser and a meet and greet event for voters at Sullivan's Pub in downtown Erie.

He says being a lifelong resident of the county council's 2nd District is one qualification and he believes he can bring a fresh perspective to council.  "What I can bring to county council that they haven't had, I think the obvious is that they've never had a person of color in the history of county council," said Horton, "so I'm bringing a different perspective, I'm bringing fresh eyes and fresh ideals.

Horton says if elected his first priority would be to re-examine how Erie County distributes its gaming funds.  He wants the funds to benefit people, not just bricks and mortar.  Horton also says he would lobby for term limits.

Horton's has some company on the democratic ticket. Lisa Austin - a college professor, David Pamula - a machine operator and Renee Vendetti - a credit manager are also challenging Joe Giles.

Republican Ned Smith is unopposed in the primary.
