A 15-year-old student at Strong Vincent was gunned down this afternoon, following what police are calling, a "pre-planned fight."
It happened around 3:30 p.m. Monday, near the corner of West 8th and Cranberry Streets.
"I came down here around 3:25 p.m. because I heard there was going to be a fight," said Strong Vincent student Tanner Loeslein. "There were about 10-15 kids over here, about 30 kids across the street."
That's when gunshots rang out.
"I heard about five shots," said Loeslein. "I look around...see what happened... and I saw my friend Andre Arrington, got shot in the leg."
The victim was then rushed to the hospital and treated for several wounds. Police later brought several people into custody for questioning, and they are expected to charge a suspect-- identified only as a student at Central Tech-- with the shooting.
"It scares me a little bit, because I've been around here all my life," said Strong Vincent student Casey Vaughn. "It hasn't been that bad, but it's kind of scary."
Neighbors describe the situation, as frightening.
"My 16-year-old niece walks to school--to and from--twice a day," said Becky Panas. "It's just horrifying. She's horrified. I don't even know if she's going to go back to school."
We spoke with the Erie School District about this incident. They tell us that they plan on increasing security at Strong Vincent. They also plan on having extra counselors on hand, for students that may be upset over this situation.
