An Erie city councilman who was appointed to the seat, is now officially running for the office.
Tuesday night, Republican John Evans kicked off his campaign at the Avalon Hotel.
Council picked him to fill a seat, vacated by a resignation.
Now, he's asking for the public's vote.
Evans is a financial planner, he's the only Republican on council.
He says his 35 years of financial experience makes him very qualified for the job.
Not surprisingly, he was talking about the GE cuts at Tuesday's kick-off.
"Hopefully we'll be able to keep the rest of the jobs at GE. I think we're going to need to see creativity, and out of the box solutions, labor and management working together to make the plant as efficient and as effect as possible. Make it too attractive to close." Said Evans.
The primary is May 21st.
There are currently 7 candidates seeking 4 open seats on city council
