Police Identify Robbery and Chase Suspect

Posted: Updated:

A robbery early Sunday morning at a convenience store in Girard led to a high speed chase, an accident and an arrest.  Girard Borough police charged this man, 31 year old Joseph Grebenz of Erie with robbery, assault and leading several police agencies on a chase at speeds exceeding 90 miles per hour.

It all started at 1:30 AM at the Country Fair Store at 308 West Main Street in Girard. Borough Police Chief Nick Vandamia says Grebenz grabbed the entire cash register drawer from a female clerk, punched her in the face and fled.

Girard Borough police gave chase and soon state police from Girard and Lawrence Park, Lake City police and Millcreek police got involved in the pursuit. It ended when the suspect crashed his car on a sharp curve at Love and Zimmerly Roads.  The suspect was released after treatment at UMPC Hamot.  He was charged and sent to jail.  No one else was hurt in the chase.  Police say the amount of cash at stake in the chase was $300.
