"A spark that could reignite development in Erie."
That's how Destination Erie Project Manager Michael Furhman describes his groups initiative, which he says will change Erie's future.
On Tuesday, in front of a jam-packed crowd at the Blasco Library Hirt Auditorium, the group discussed their plans to unlock the "full potential of the Erie bayfront."
It's all part of a three phase initiative aimed at improving the city of Erie and the surrounding areas. For phase two, Destination Erie is trying to develop a plan for Erie's bayfront, specifically, for the area from the Erie Water Works to the Blasco Library.
"That waterfront is going through a transition right now," said Furhman. " The question is, are we living up to our potential? Are we designing it in such a way, that will be sustainable for the future so that vision lasts for a long period of time?"
The planning process--which is made possible through a $1.8 million grant-- is far from over. Destination Erie has until the end of 2015 to complete project.
