As the budget deadline approaches, tonight, members of the community got to hear from the candidates that will be responsible for leading the Millcreek School District into the future.
Tonight, the seven candidates running for Millcreek School Board participated in a public forum. Two of the candidates--John DiPlacido and Mike Kobylka--are seeking re-election. The remaining candidates--Lou Aliota, Christopher Busko, Benjamin Pike, John Pitzer, and Donna Reese--are also vying for the four positions that are open.
With the district facing a $9-million deficit and possible school closings, organizers of the forum say that this particular race takes on a special significance.
"I think races are always important," said Candidates' Forum Chair Bonnie Fagan. "But obviously, in light of what has happened with the board maybe not knowing everything they should have known, I think people have an extremely heightened sensitivity about the way that the school board should be operating and working close in hand with the administration."
Election day is May 21.
