Erie Swears in New Officers

Posted: Updated:

Erie police will soon have a slightly beefed up street presence as two retiring police officers are replaced with two new patrol officers.

This morning Mayor Joe Sinnott delivered the oath to 28-year old Kristen Bergquist and 23-year old Nico Fioravanti before family, friends, fellow officers and city hall staff members.

Both scored in the high 90's on entry tests and both have previous field experience, Kristen with Gannon University security and Nico with the Erie Civic Center Authority.

"Once I started with my classes for my Criminal Justice major I realized it's definitely what I wanted to do" Fioravanti told us.

Bergquist decided on law enforcement as a career after going on a ride along with two other officers.

"That experience made me realize that that's what I wanted to do for the rest of my life," she told us.

The two hires restores the Erie police compliment to 173 before the retirements of Lt. Kirk Werner and Deputy Chief Joe Emerick.
