There will be more lifeguards on duty along Presque Isle beaches this summer. The park expects to have a total staff of 59, including guards, supervisors and managers. That compares to a staff of 47 last year.
Managers say they've been agressively recruiting strong swimmers to fill the jobs.
Meantime, increased state funding will allow the park to hire more maintenance crews. They will be focused on cleaning restrooms.
In recent years, park visitors have complained about the condition of the restrooms during the busy summer season.
Park Manager Harry Leslie said, "So we will actually have people working in the park until 9 pm, being able to do restrooms and cleanup litter where we had not done that for the last couple of years because of budget cuts."
