After a winter sports season of watching the Otters and BayHawks NOT make the playoffs and no state championship in high school basketball, the spring and summer are looking quite good at this point.
The Erie Explosion will host the CIFL championships Sunday at 2pm at the Erie Insurance Arena. What makes this team so special is they play defense, unheard on in indoor football circles, holding Kentucky to mere 6 points in the semi finals. They will play the Saginaw Sting in the finals on Sunday.
How about the Seawolves too. A 3-game sweep of the Altoona Curve gives the Howlers a 3 game lead in the Western Division of the Eastern League. I remember being told during media day the week the season began that this group of players knows how to win. Nearly half of them played on a single-a team in Lakeland that won a title last summer. They have brought that winning swagger to Erie this summer. It might be fun team to watch to Uht this summer.
The Mercyhurst Men's Lacrosse team is ranked number one in the nation and the only unbeaten team in the nation as well. They recently won their first ECAC title and have their sites set on a national championship which would be their second in the last three years.
Summer should be fun with lots of EDGA golf, fishing tournaments on the Lake, racing at the Lake Erie Speedway, etc. Lots to look forward too I'd say. Make plans to enjoy it.
