Donations Lead to New Police Vehicles

Posted: Updated:

The Erie Police Department will soon have 8 new SUV vehicles to use, vehicles that the Chief says will keep the officers safe especially in bad weather.

Chief Steve Franklin joined Mayor Joe Sinnott in making the announcement, showing off three of the eight new vehicles in the parking lot of Erie City Hall.

They are high performance SUV's that cost up to $50,000 each when lights and electronics are added.

The funding for the purchases comes in part from four community partners; Erie Insurance, Gannon University, the Erie-Western PA Port Authority and the Erie Housing Authority.

Mayor Sinnott says it is a constant process to update police equipment given budget realities but says the condition of the fleet right now is "pretty good."
