Mayor Explains Grossman Endorsement

Posted: Updated:

Erie Mayor Joe Sinnott met with the media during his lunch hour Tuesday to explain a decision that first became public over the weekend.

That he was changing his mind about staying neutral in the democratic primary for Erie County Executive and will endorse the incumbent democrat Barry Grossman.

Grossman appeared with Sinnott to accept the support, saying that he believed that he and the Mayor had worked well together during their time in office.

Sinnott said the endorsement had nothing to do with recent comments from challenger Kathy Dahlkemper questioning what she has been calling a "lack of leadership" in the County.

We caught up with Dahlkemper shortly after the noon press conference.

"That's fine," she said when asked for her reaction. "I'm not interested in the endorsement of an office holder. I'm interested in the endorsement of the people of the County."

WICU-TV will host a debate between Grossman and Dahlkemper that will air live Monday night May 13 at 7pm.

The voters will have their say on primary Election Day May 21st.
