On Friday afternoon, police took 40-year-old Derrick Lamatt Rowry off to prison, after he turned himself in after a shooting in front of McKinley Elementary school that morning that sent Tamara Logan, a teacher's aide a the school, to the hospital.
Police say Rowry has been cooperating with them. He now faces a list of charges including attempted homicide, aggravated assault, possessing a weapon on school property and terroristic threats.
Police said Logan was assaulted and then shot, and suffered injuries to her head. Deputy Chief Randy Bowers said that the two do know each other, and that it was unfortunate that the incident happened in front of the school.
Bowers also said that Logan was able to speak and identify Rowry as the suspect.
"A lot of information was discovered from the victim. She was able to speak and identify the suspect. I'd note at this point, that we still have several interviews to complete, but we have enough information to file the charges."
On Friday afternoon, police said at last check, Logan was alert and awake.
