Local Shelters Win National Prize

Posted: Updated:

Local animal shelters are gaining national recognition.

The A.N.N.A. Shelter and the Humane Society beat out 700 shelters across the country to win the Pedigree Feeding Project.

With that prize, comes free dog food for a year, freeing up thousands of dollars for other costs.

The shelter had to submit an essay and a video saying how they would use that extra money, and then it went to a public vote on Facebook, where community support came through.

The A.N.N.A. Shelter will use the extra money to cover medical costs.

"There's always a dog that needs an amputation, there's always somebody that needs some kind of surgery that very expensive, so a lot of that money for us is gonna go to the extraneous medical budget," said owner Ruth Thompson- Carroll. "I'm excited... we'll actually have our own money in the budget to do that."

Congratulations to both shelters.
