Some weekend thoughts as we start another week of sports action. The Penguins let one slip away losing game three in Ottawa in double overtime. You never know when a series can turn on just one goal...but that goal the Sens scored with 30 seconds in regulation that tied prevented the Pens from going up 3-0 and more or less securing the series. Now, with game four looming on Tuesday night in Ottawa, it's anybody's series right now.
What the Indians are doing is amazing but remember it's only mid-May. They seem to be getting contributions from all facets ..sometimes pitching, sometimes clutch hitting and sometimes a little help from the other side. The Indians hit the ball so well, you just can't give them any extra outs. I'm not quite excited just yet but if we are still talking in mid July, that'll be a different story. And if that's the case, I give my vote to Terry Francona as manager of the year.
Same story with the Pirates except for the fact that the Pirates have started the last two seasons well and then faded away in August and September. If you're a Pirates fan, hope the club learned from those two seasons and won't repeat it. My biggest critics for manager Clint Hurdle has been the way he's handled the pitching staff. The last two years, I think he overworked the bullpen and it caught up with them late in the season. Not sure if he could have helped it but you have to put the blame on someone and that's why managers are fired and not the players. Comes down to starting pitching and the Bucs need some consistency in that department to still be in contention in September.
