Sinnott Will Back Winner

Posted: Updated:

Erie Mayor Joe Sinnott took the risk of making a primary endorsement between two strong democratic candidates for county executive.  It was a risk that did not payoff at the polls. We wanted to know if the mayor has any regrets about not remaining neutral in the primary, and the answer is no. Still, one day later, he is backing Kathy Dahlkemper, the party's nominee.

Once the mayor made his decision to support incumbent County Executive Barry Grossman, he was all in. He didn't just say he was endorsing him, he showed it. Just this past weekend, the two spent an all day trolley tour campaigning in east side neighborhoods.

The mayor said he wanted to stop the revolving door for recent Erie County Executives. But now that the voters have spoken, Sinnott says he'll get behind the democratic nominee. "The reason I made the endorsement, is I thought we needed some continuity changing county executives every four years, I think wasn't a healthy way to keep going," Sinnott said. "There were some things in place that I wanted to keep going, that's why I made the endorsement, certainly now the field has changed, I am now behind Mrs. Dahlkemper in the fall, because she's our democratic nominee."

The mayor told us he has not spoken to Mrs. Dahlkemper about his support. In fact, he hasn't spoken to either candidate since the race was decided, but as a matter of course, he says he will be behind the winner and in his words, that's what good democrats should be doing.

The NFL has upheld star wide receiver Josh Gordon's year-long suspension for violating the league's substance abuse policy. It's a decision that's stirring a lot of controversy. Just last month, Baltimore Ravens running back Ray Rice received a two-game suspension for assaulting his then-fiancé. But now, many fans are comparing these two suspensions. "I think it's absolutely ridiculous that Ray Rice can beat his wife, but someone is going to get in trouble for smoking some marijuana,” said J...More >>
