Toledo will compete in 11 tournaments in its 2013-14 campaign and host the Rocket Classic for the first time in eight years, Head Coach Nicole Hollingsworth announced on Thursday. As part of its upcoming slate, UT will have the opportunity to play in several high-profile tournaments including the Central District Invitational and Ohio State's Lady Buckeye Invitational.
"Our goal is to make our schedule more competitive each season, and this year's version will definitely be the most challenging in our program's 19-year history," Hollingsworth said. "We had our best season in school history this past year, and I'm excited to see what we can do against a tougher schedule."
Toledo commences its season when it looks to defend its title at Illinois State's Redbird Invitational (Sept. 8-9) followed by a return trip to Michigan State's Mary Fossum Invitational (Sept. 14-15). After a three-week break, the Rockets receive a glimpse of the host course - Hawthorns Golf & Country Club - for the 2014 Mid-American Conference Championship when it competes in The Preview (Oct. 7-8) in Fishers, IN. UT will then head to Catawba Island Golf Club to host the Rocket Classic (Oct. 14-15) before closing out its fall with the Hoosier Invitational (Oct. 19-20) at Hickory Stick Golf Club in Greenwood, IN.
The spring season opens with the inaugural Women's Mid-American Match Play Challenge at Lakewood Ranch (FL) Golf & Country Club (Feb. 3-4). The Rockets return to that same course two weeks later for the Central District Invitational (Feb. 17-18) hosted by Michigan State. The Rockets will venture to Arizona for spring break when it participates in the Rio Verde Invitational (March 7-9) for a 12th consecutive year. Two weeks later, UT heads back to the Sunshine State for a third time when it makes a second-straight appearance at the Ocala Invitational (March 23-25).
Toledo will receive its final tuneups for the MAC Championship (April 25-27) when it defends its title at Eastern Kentucky's Colonel Classic (April 4-5) as well as participating in the Lady Buckeye Invitational for the time since 2008 (April 19-20).
Toledo returns four starters for the 2013-14 campaign, including all-conference honorees senior Kate Hoops and sophomore Sathika Ruenreong. Ruenreong ranked fifth in the MAC with a 76.7 stroke average en route to becoming the first Rocket to earn MAC Freshman of the Year and just the fifth UT golfer to be a member of the first-team All-MAC squad. Hoops received second-team All-MAC accolades after posting a 77.3 mark that ranked ninth in the league.
