Former Rocket Jared Hoying was promoted to Class AAA Round Rock (TX) Express of the Pacific Coast League on Friday, June 7.
Hoying made his debut in right field the following day in the first game of a split doubleheader, going 1-for-3 with one walk and one RBI. He sat out the nightcap before returning to the lineup in center field on Sunday when he went 1-for-4 with one home run, one run scored and two RBI.
In 40 games this season at Class AA Frisco RoughRiders of the Texas League South, Hoying registered a .242 batting average (37-for-153) with 17 runs scored, nine two-base hits, three triples, five roundtrippers and 24 RBI.
Hoying was chosen by the Texas Rangers with the 316th pick of the 10th round in the 2010 MLB Amateur Draft.
A three-year starter for the Midnight Blue & Gold, Hoying currently sits second in school history in home runs (34), third in RBI (137), tied for fourth in doubles (46) and sixth in total bases (338), as well as tied for second in roundtrippers (14, 2010), third in total bases (138, 2010), fourth in doubles (18, 2010), tied for sixth in RBI (53, 2010), tied for eighth in triples (4, 2010), tied for ninth in RBI (50, 2009) and tied for 10th in home runs (11, 2009) and total bases (120, 2009) in the single-season recordbook.
