A great season by the Fort LeBoeuf girls softball team came to an end Friday at Penn State when they lost to Valley Veiw 5-0 in the state title game and finished with a 20-5 record. A win by the Lady Bison would have given them a rare double-double, two state titles in the same year. General McLane remains the only Erie County school to do it, winning both a state title in football and boys basketball in 2005. Many of the Lady Bison softball players were part of the state championship won in volleyball in the fall. It goes to show how touch it is to do !!! Making what McLane accomplished that much more amazing.
With the LeBoeuf loss, another high school cycle is over and as always, created a lot of great memories of games and athletes. Prep's state title in football was the number one event of the school year. Stocked with a few Division One athletes like Damion Terry and Delton Williams, the Ramblers rolled to an unbeaten season. For those of us who cover high school sports year by year, you really appreciate this kind of a club since it comes along only once in a great while.
The Sunday SportsBlitz show features Erie Sports Commission Executive Director Ron Sertz and his new hire, former Otters media relations director Mark Jeanneret. Don't overlook the great job the ESC has done in this area bringing in events like billiards, bowling, gymnastics and fishing. It is truly a plus for our area to have these guys beating the streets to get quality events to come here, events that are very diversified too. We'll also hear their thoughts on the future of the Erie Otters franchise in Erie, since both were heavily involved with the Otters just a few short years ago. That's on the Sunday SportsBlitz this Sunday at 11:30 am on WSEE. Have a great weekend everyone !!!
