Roar On The Shore 2013 Kicks Off

Posted: Updated:

Roar on the Shore 2013 kicked off Thursday night in style.

Thousands of people flocked to downtown Erie's Perry Square, for the opening night of the popular 4 day bike rally.
The event is expected to bring upwards of 100,000 people into the Erie area.
All with an economic impact of $20 to 30 Million dollars.

Earlier Thursday evening, the event kicked off with the annual "Bringing in the Roar" motorcycle parade.

Hundreds of motorcyclists gathered at Presque Isle Downs and Casino to take part in the 7th annual parade.
They left the casino around 6:00, and made their way down to Perry Square.

Hundreds of people lined the parade route along the way, watching and waving to the bikers.
NASCAR legend and motorcycle enthusiast Kyle Petty was the parade's Grand Marshal.
For Petty and many of the bikers, it was an exciting night

"Amazing, incredible. I got in today, I got here around 2:30/3:00 there were already people in lounge chairs, they look like NASCAR fans sitting waiting for a race to start," said Petty.

"It's very exciting because there's people everywhere and you feel very special, part of the community. People line up everywhere, it's just a lot of fun," said biker, Kelly Polanski.
"It's a fantastic thing for Erie, it brings a lot of people in and supports a lot... it's just a great event overall," said biker Mark Polanski.
