The Erie County Coroner and the District Attorney must decide if an Erie man should now be charged with homicide.
22-year old Adam Brown is already behind bars for the brutal attack on Frank and Elfreda Karmazin one month ago. Police say Brown slashed the couple's throats during a robbery inside the Karmazin home. He was arrested shortly after the attack.
Mr. Karmazin died yesterday at a nursing home. He was 72-years old and had serious health issues before the slashing. Erie County Coroner Lyell Cook must decide if the attack played any part in the man's death.
''We are working with the district attorney, naturally. We're going to review the medical records and the police records and then, at that point, we will make our decisions as to how we're going to proceed with the case," Cook said.
The decision should be made sometime next week. Brown remains in the Erie County Prison with a $500,000 bond. He was charged with attempted homicide after his arrest.
