Gas Leak Evacuates Residents on Erie's East Side

Posted: Updated:

An entire city block had to be evacuated after a gas leak on Erie's east side.

It happened around 10 P.M. Friday night, between Newman and East Avenue on 5th Street.

Fire crews said a Verizon utility truck struck a National fuel gas line as it was working.

National Fuel crews were able to clamp that line shortly after it happened.

Residents that live in the area, will be let back into their houses after gas level tests are completed.
