On Wednesday Erie moves closer to having its own September 11 Memorial. A beam from the fallen world trade center buildings will be the centerpiece of the project.
Former City Councilman Mark Aleksandrowicz is the force behind the project. You'll remember our news team documented every step, as he brought that piece of history back to Erie.
The beam will find a lasting home outside Blasco Library. It will be set in place at 9:00 Wednesday morning, in a "working ceremony" with key donors to the project, who have given money, time, materials and services. "Mr. Birkmire is going to haul it down to the library, that'll be the final haul that it's on a trailer. Guys from Hoffman Industries donated a crane and they'll lift it up and set it down on the base."
Mark Aleksandrowicz says a complete dedication will comes later, after the site is fully developed with information panels, landscaping and benches.
