A lot is made of school spirit, wearing the school colors on game day, pep rallies and so on but I believe an individual or a group shows it's true character when faced with adversity or tragedy. Such was the case at McDowell last week when student Alyssa O'Neill passed away. Dedicating the Friday football game against General McLane to her, students came and honored her by wearing purple, making signs and celebrating her life instead of mourning her death, at least on that night. Nothing seems worse than a youngster dying before they have the chance to live but to see how McDowell came together and remembered her was impressive. Some say the size of McDowell does not allow that to happen, too big, too many students. If you were there on Friday night, you should already have changed your mind about that. RIP Alyssa O'Neil, your friends wil always remember you.
