Erie Police Investigating Rash Of Counterfeit Cash

Posted: Updated:

A warning from Erie police.
There's a rash of counterfeit cash going around the city of Erie.
And already, several businesses have seen it.

At quick glance the money looks very real, but if you look closer there's obvious signs the cash is fake.

Several Erie businesses have reported to Erie police they've seen $10's, $20's $50's $100 dollar bills pass through their hands.
And they're fake.

The incidents seem to be centered around Parade street, at bars, convenience and drug stores.
Police say they've had some reports from around the city though.

Erie police confirm that over the past few weeks they've seen an increase in reports of counterfeit bills.

Police and businesses recommend using a counterfeit detection pen.
Other tips are to look for a watermark, notice the feel; real money has a raised texture, fake money feels flat and thin.
