Destination Erie's lecture series, on the vision for the county's future continued Tuesday night.
Motivational speaker Bill Strickland was this month's Destination Erie: A Regional Vision guest. He created a training program in Pittsburgh, that transformed a poverty-ridden community into one with a 90% graduation rate. The program uses art to teach kids at a young age, they can make a difference in the world.
Project Manager Michael Fuhrman said that bringing in a diverse group of speakers, like Strickland, to talk to residents, will help move Erie Country forward into the future.
"It's about yes we can in our community. It's about really thinking we have a serious problem, how are we going to address it? Because we know the status quo is not working, so what is it we can and it's the ideas that inspire people to think about it."
Fuhrman said it's all about working with our assets, to turn negatives into positives.
The lecture series continues next month with Catherine Tumber's "The Promise of America's Smaller Industrial Cities" on October 17th.
