Lavery Brewing Company's Ribbon Cutting

Posted: Updated:

Lavery Brewing Company's new brew pub has been open for about two weeks, but on Wednesday at 10am, the brewery will make it official with a cutting ceremony.

The company focuses on making ales in small, hand-crafted batches. It's a 10 barrel production brewery, founded by husband and wife team, Jason and Nicole Lavery.

They've been brewing in Erie since 2010, but the new brew pub brings more of a presence to downtown, and give customers the chance to drink Lavery beer under the same roof as where it is brewed.

"The pub's been a great medium for us to educate customers about our craft beer and how it should be served properly," said Jason Lavery, co-founder and president. "It's an extension of the brewery for sure. The food is very simple, and compliments the food perfectly."

The location is at 128 West 12th Street, between Peach and Sassafras. The theme of the pub is old school Irish, and will serve six of its craft beers at a time, adjusting the menu by season.

The company says that they like to bounce between different traditions and styles of beer brewing, and all of their beers are unfiltered and unpasteurized.

On the menu is a variety of ales - the most popular on the menu is the pumpkin ale, called "Devil's Pumpkin."

For those wondering, an "ale" beer is a broad category for beers. Ales are fermented at warmer temperatures than lager beers, and use a different type of yeast. While lagers are often described as "crisp" or "clean" tasting, ales tend to be more complex in flavor.

Lavery also has a food menu - an ox roast sandwich, veggie burger, and pita and hummus are on the menu for now. The brew pub has plans for expanding their kitchen as business grows.
