Living Pink Pageant Comes to PA

Posted: Updated:

The first Living Pink Pageant in Pennsylvania took place right here in Erie this weekend.  The five local contestants who participated are survivors or women currently battling breast cancer. Becky Maxon, Bridget Adams, Sue Fassette, Patricia Hammer and Alice Francis answered questions and showed their inner and outer beauty in glamorous gowns. Our meteorologist Julie Coates served as emcee.

Organizer say the pageant is not about vanity or competition, it's about helping women reclaim the wholeness and identity sometimes lost during the cancer battle.

The winner of a pink pageant in Washington state, Angie Janosky explained why that's so important.  " A diagnosis affects you emotionally even if you think you are emotionally strong, you feel attacked as a woman," said Janosky.  "So to be all dolled up and feel feminine again is wonderful, it's all about the glam and the glitter."

The audience voted breast cancer survivor, Patricia Hammer as the winner of the Living Pink Pageant.  The real winner is the local non-profit organization Linked By Pink.  The pageant raised funds to help the local organization provide more grants and scholarships to those battling breast cancer.
