Murder Defendant Looks to Withdraw Plea

Posted: Updated:

An Erie man who was supposed to be sentenced Tuesday for murder, instead wants to withdraw his plea.

52-year-old Jeff Selby was due in court for sentencing Tuesday morning.
On August 26th, he plead "no contest" to third-degree murder, in connection to last November's beating death of his girlfriend, Mary Smith.

Apparently, Selby learned that he could get anywhere from 14-20 years in jail for third-degree murder, which was more than he expected.
So, he now wants to withdraw his plea.

The case is delayed as a judge makes a decision.
