Local PennDOT Crews Prepare for Snow

Posted: Updated:

The leaves are starting to change. And the calendar now says October. But while it is clearly fall, local PennDOT crews are already thinking about winter.

This week, crews began their month long job of getting all the plow trucks and other vehicles ready to roll for the first snow storm. Huge supplies of salt, anti-skid and brine are already in place. PennDOT's goal is to be ready for snow by November 1st.

Erie County PennDOT Manager Bob Miller said, "Well here in Erie County, winter can come anytime. We have a fleet of 43 trucks here that require a lot of preparation to get ready for that first event."

PennDOT's snow removal budget for Erie County this winter is nearly $4.8 million.
